At Wiiitara on Tuesday, Mr H. B. Leppcr, of Lopperton, was sworn in as a Justice of the Peuco. • Mr L. 0. Hooker, who will take 0 aarge of the Taranalci court at the International Exhibition, tras in New Plymouth on Tuesday, He leaves for Cliristehurch on Thursday. The following are amongst the guests I who wero staying at the White Hart Hotel yesterday: Messrs Herbert Thomson, Janiseh, Wingficld and Hutchinson (Auckland), Falkner, Noabcr, Hyne, Ashwin and Mack! (Wellington), Nevill and Crease (Wanganui), Griffon (Christchurch), and Hislop (Hawcra).
Mr D. Mo A Hum is at prosent «n a business trip round tho mountain, paying his. annual visit to his sub.-agents m various centres. Ho will bo out of town till Saturday.
Miss Daisy Smith, tho jicwly-ap-pointed teacher at the Cardiff school, will take up her duties at the beginning of November.
Colonel Webb, commanding the Wellington distru-t volunteers, arrived in New Plymouth by the express ad, night, and is staying at the Criterion Hotel, To-day ho inspects the Kewa llewa nlio raiif,e appointments, and to-night will be present at the parade of the Taranaki Rifles and Taranaki Guards. Mr J. C George, and his son Mr E"ie George, leave Now Plymouth this afternoon on (ho first slago of their trip to the Old Country. Mr George makes the journey in search of better health, anil we hope, with his many Irieiuls, that he will return with his health completely rec<.n«r,ited.
Mr Joseph Maekay, M A., formerly oE Midlnrst, and wcll-kuownjiere as a prominent member of many public bodies, is in New Plymouth, and on Thursday takes possession for a term of Mr J. (J. George's residence.
