RECREATION GROUND IMPROVEMENTS.
THE I'LAXS condemned.
BLACK SCOUNDREL VILLAIN';
An unique document was received by the N<w Plymouth Recreation Grounds Board at its last meeung, and handed over to the Recreation Sports Ground Committee to deal with.. We reproduce it in fuH, with the exception of the plans which apparently indicate I lie writer's idea of now to improve the sports ground. The letter is as follows. New Plymouth, September 11 /00. Sir, —it is well known thai your Board has given liberty to a lot of bruta' footballers and oMcrs of a low mental calibiie(in my opinion) to rais the Cricket ground so that it will allways be dry. Now 1 must protest against that bullheaded trick, for 1 should of drained it 10 or 12 years ago as per mv plan but as 1 belonge to the Dick, Tom and Harry class 1 stood no chance of doing so. tiie poor little dolis garden it had 10 be cussed, it had to be darned all these years by beings who 1 can take the shine off (Councillors) a score of for sterling ability to anything, what 1 mean is this, most of the Board does or did belonge to tho Borougil Council and that 1 am a beter man than all the Mayors and Councilors that ever was in N.P. for knowledge on road work iO years.
Ditto on pumping with a 50.h.p. steam engine for S bob a week as a 'aJ 14 to 17. you gave ,63.0.0 a week of poor donkeys of ratepayers' money to R— to pump with two little water wheels 20 h,p. the fellow put them to gj too thirds or three quarter speed to make believe he had a very hard task, ho made a ass and a fool'of you aii of the 16 years he was there because you know nothing about it but 1 did. Ditto on sicne crushing 1 know what an accursed thing the crusher is. Ditto on cuting bridge timber in the bush.,, Ditto rolcing iton beams for bridge building, and some experience at concrete work, the above is what the double rate is chiefly spent upon, and the same persons have now got hold of the Reck to spoil it, to curse it. I hereby declare that if tlio Recreation Board suffers anybody to rais ihe Cricket ground with their bullheaded desire to make it dry instead of draining it after my plan it somebody's clses a longo way Irtcr. it is a piece of black scoundril villany and those that are a party to it shoukl I;-; shot as a black curse to the grounds. I find y»mr grand surveyon makes about 10 inches of terraces on their plan, but 1 make 0 inches more on mine, the barbed wire fence that has been erected oughf to be cur up in 7ft lengths and put in a fi.ime and those that have been the cause f it being there should be forced to ly down on it naked for a month for I wood of planted an African box thorn hedge ail round 20 years ago if I had of been in the ]?"ard. then their 1* ihe Swans I am sure it is the Gander tbats killed ihem. the being that put him there ought to be made eat his feathers for his tea. and as for the 1 barren black sand thats outside the giounda it will tell its own tale, but Ive been thinking ii only wants an earthquake to drop the Reck and the B d down into coal pit for I can Sje how it will end with the players. it was a ditty trick of the Board''hot to call for bids for the best plan, for I am as good a man for the job as those youve engaged, but it is a tact there is nobodv in (he Board, just one will do, that will move the .K.M. Court to slop the black scoundril v'H any until draining has proved a failoui ? and that never never will be. with this you will receive n V o pages of ''lllustrated London News" shewing Olympic games at Athens in a hollow place."
