THE TOWN DRAINAGE.
AN UNCOMPLETED SYSTEM. AN IMPORTANT REPORT. In view of the proposal to raise a loan for the extension of the New Plymouth electric ligoiing scheme, and for ether works, a compiehcn'•ive statement complied by Mr A. 11. Kendall, sanitary engineer, calls for seiiuus consideration. Mr Kendall reports that over 2'< miles u f the sewers embodied 111 Mr Mesiayrr's scheme are not yet laid, and some of these are urgently lcquircd in sheets where hot weather will probably make the conditions, intolerable. As making the position moie arule, the engineer mentions that l-everai owners' of property have anticipated the sewers 'and have as far as possible hud down newdrains to connect with the new sewers to be laid. In his estimates of the work in these unsewered streets, MiKendall mentions they are considerably lower (hail the cost of the drainlaid up to the present, ])ut he feels -tire he can cany out the w»ik. foi the amounts gUcn.
