CAPTAIN COOK MEMORIAL.
Pes Press Association. Gisuoi.ve, October 8. The ceremony of unveiling the Cook Memorial took place to-day under most auspicious circumstances. The Xaval officers and Parliamentary visitors were landed near[the original landing site. being welcomed by Maori hakas. The Hon. Mr Carroll unveiled the monument. The other speakers (who all eulogised Captain Cook) were: The Mayor and the County Chairman, the Hon. Mr Millar, Bishop Williams, the Hon. U. H. Mills, and Captain Bridson. Telegrams of congratulations were received from the Premier, Hon. 111 Jiall-Jones and others. Mr Carroll said it was a picture to see the descendant* of the men who had defied Captain Cook and of the pakebas mingling together on one common platform, al: I heartily joining in the celebrations. The visitors arc being entertained at a jocial to-night.
