VOLUNTEERING.
A parade of tho headquarter's companies was held hist night, when there was a large muster, especially of the Rifles and Garrison Band. The companies wore marched to Si. Michael'ssquare, and in view of the Governor's visit on the loth inst., were exercised in ceremonial drill and the march past. Colonel Okey, who was in command, expressed his pleasure with tho work done. At a meeting- of the Rifle*, held after the parade, il was decided to enter a team for 1110 tug-of-war at the Labour Day demonstration on 'he 10th inst. It was also resolved -to reply to the Guards' football challenge by agreeing- to play on Thursday (to-morrow). Captain Okey presented the prize:! won a: the Morris tube competitions. Mr Buchanan (lion, member) won the hist prize for trained nun, a vernier, and Private Kitson the prize, a handsome vase, for recruits. Private Avery and Corporal Joseph won die ammunition prizes. The Rifles' class firing will take place at the Range on Thursday and Saturday next.
