FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT, By menus of a forged cheque a local ■ tradesman was victimised to the extent 0f.C1.0 15s. The cheque was cashed on Saturday, 22nd September, and purported to be signed by a well-known sei tier. Before cashing the cheque the tradesman usW (he person who presented it if it were drawn by the, aforesaid settler, and, receiving : n answer in lite afhrmaiive, had no he:j, ration in Dashing it, as (he man who presented jt had been in (he shop doing business several tunes previous, and also because tho signature was a yery good imitation of the supposed drawer. The police, on investigating the matter, found that tho blank cheque had been supplied by another tradesman in the town, ancl as ho was able to giyc a description of the man there is every likelihood that he will soon be caught. On Saturday night the Stratford Municipal Band, under Bandmaster T. Grubb, rendered a selection of music outside the Municipal Buildings. A largo crowd listened to the band, and the music was highly appreciated. Mr Edgar Turner, who was associated with Mr Bean as instructor of the Akewaro Gymnasium Club, has opened a new Gymnasium Club in the h'orcstors' Hall, awl (,'Q pupils linye already been enrolled. It may bo mentioned that the foe for instruction is merely a nominal one, Mr Turner receiving no monetary recompense for his tuition, btratford is fortunate in having a young man who is willing to devote much of his leisure time to assisting the youth of the town.
