LIONEL TERRY.
SECOND BID FOR LIBERTY, A DARING ESCAPE. HUNTED BY POLICE BATTALIONS. Per Press Association. Christchurch, September 30, Lionel Terry, who escaped from the Sunnyskle mental hospital on Saturday night last, and who was captured on the following Tuesday, and returned to the institution, escaped again last night. He went to bed at S o'clock, and was locked up in the ordinary way. At half-past 9 it was discovered that he had broken down the shutters of his windows forced open the window, and let himself down to the ground, a distance of 20 feet., by means of a rope made out of his bedclothes. As far as is known he had no clothes on except his night garments.
Shortly after midday to-day the police were informed from Kaiapoi that a man dressed in white trousers and shirt, and supposed to be a lunatic, had been soon in the Waimakiriri Riber bed, and it is supposed that this is the missng man. A strong force of constables and detectives was sent out from Christchurch and Kaiapoi with the object of recapturing Terry.
