DEATH OF WI PARATA.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, September 29. \\i Parata, gn eX'M.H.R., one of the leading and wealthiest chiefs on this coast, died at his residence at W aikanae this morning, his death being due to an accident which he met with on Thursday last. He was in the act of mounting his horse, which by somo unaccountable means he overshot .and fell on his head. The deceased chief was a powerful man of commanding appearance, and was a lirsi-class horseman. Ho leaves a large family, inc'uding a number of greatgrandchildren.
