SALE OF WORK.
Besides being draped and prettily laid out, St. Mary's Hall presented a very busy appearance on i hut'sday afternoon and evening, the occasion being a sale, of work held by the New l'lymoutn \V.CT.U. Mr t. Doekrill (tiie Mayor) opened die lunction with a pleasing speech,, in the course of which he referred to die good work done by the Union in New Plymouth, laying special stress ~n the work of the members amongst the poor, and in visiting the prisons. He was pleased to see so fine an array of goods on the stalls, and trusted the sale would be an even greater success than was anticipated, especially as the funds were towards a most laudable object. Mrs Douglas (president of the Union) thanked the Mayor for attending, and the sale of work proceeded meniiy up io a late hour in the evening- The stalls wore all heavily lade n with the various good 3, and a substantial business was done.
'l'he following were stall-holders : Fancy good stall: Mesdames T. G. Sole, Okey, and Miss Murray, Piain stall: Mesdames Upton and Buliot. Produce stall, Mrs W. Sad.er, Misses L. Andrews and Buliot. Flower stall: Misses Footc and Sole. Lollie Mall: Mrs U'ilkio and Miss Murray. Afternoon tea: Mrs Pikett, Misses Goodacre, Oxenham, Buttery, Sole and Retford. , During the evening a pleasing musical programme was rendered.
