FOOTBALL.
JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. I The mcocing- of the Waimato 11. B and the Tukapa 11., winners of the Southern and Northern division junior contests, for tho championship attracted a fair attendance at >he racecourse yesterday afternoon. The same ended in a draw, and that was just about how it should have ended. Tho frame as an exposition of football was a terribly poor one, but it was willing, although friendly. The southern forwards wore a fine lot and when they got a spurt on swept the field, but their backs were very weak in every department except tackling-, which was the only commendable feature of both teams' play. The local forwards played well, but were scarcely powerful enough for the visitors, and the backs played much below form, being just good enough to neutralise the superiority of their opponents' vanguard. , Playing with with the wind in the first spell, Tukapa kept play in Waimatc's territory continually, one or two determined bicaks-away by the visiting forwards, however, breaking the monotony. Douglas scored at thg corner from a. passing rush, and also kicked a goal from a mark, the spell ending in favour of Tukapa by 6 points to o. On changing ends, play was fairly fast, and was mostly in favour of the visitors, who had many opportunities to score, but were wanting in finesse. Towards the close of tho game the Waimate backs commenced to handle the ball with seme show of previous knowledge, and scored two tries, one from a forward and the other from a back rush, the game ending Tukapa 6, Waimate 6.
