STRATFORD.
FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.
This morning between 50 and Co burning pigeons belonging to the Taranaki Flying Club arrived by the 'J-s<> a.m. train. The birds were liberated at 10 a.m. by the stationmaster (Mr Campbell), the weather being fine and ciear. After circling round for a minute the birds made straight off in the direction of New Plymouth. About a month ago Mrs Walter Smith, of Douglas Road, came into Stracford by the morning train and left a basket containing clothing to the value of £6 in the waiting room at the railway station, thinking, no doubt, that it would be quite safe. On returning, however, at 6 p.m., she found that the basket was missing, and at once notified the police. Constable Ryan having made enquiries, traced a woman whom he suspected, to New Plymouth, but found site had left that town, but again traced her to Dannevirke, where, information having been sent to the police, she was arrested last Saturday, with many of the stolen articles in her possession. The woman, Marjorie MciCenzie, will appear at the Stratford Court to-morrow.
Mr F. S. Pollock, of the Commercial Hotel, accompanied by Mrs Pollock, are spending a holiday in the Marlborough district. During their absence the hotel is under the capable management of Mr John Searle, so well known to the travelling public in Taranaki. September 25.
