HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
The New Plymouth High School Board of Governors met on Wednesday evening. There were present: Mes.-rs N, K. -M;u'Diarmid (chairman), E. Dockrill, J. B. lioy, S. Percy-Smith, and W. Bevrley (secretary). Leave of absence was granted to Messrs M. Eraser and D. Berry A letter was read from the Secretary for Education, acknowledging receipt of the Board's correspondence in reference tu the ques, : on of cciiiributing to the funds of the New Plj .onth Technical School. He was d ,e.c.l to say that there wou d epjer• to be no reason why the Eoard of Covernors of a High School as control 1 d'; authority of school classes (composed of pupils on the roll of the school) should not, if it so desires, contribute towards the cost of providing su'table accommodation for such classes even where that accommodation is to be shared by other classes conducted by another controlling authority. He pointed out that subsidies are not payable on contributions made by controlling authorities in aid of classes under their control.
Members expressed their inability to accept this opinion contrary to that of Mr Samuel, solicitor to the Board, at the same time hoping that the difficulty would be settled and the Borrd enabled to contribute.
The matter will come up for discussion at next meet'ng, Mr Doel—ill to communicate in the mealtime with Mr E. M. Smith. M.H.R., on the matter.
Only two app ,; cations were received for the post of assistant at the school, rendered vacant by the resignation by Mr T. Blain. The applicants were Messrs T. McAdam (formerly in the Taranaki Education Board's seryice at Koru), and E. Jardine, formerly of the Wanganui Collegiate School and Te Aute College, and other appointments in Hawke's Bay.
The Chairman and Mr Smith were authorised to deal with the appointment.
The case of & parent disputing unpaid school fees will be placed in the hands of the Board's solicitor.
Mr Samuel wrote regarding the ratification of the Onaero leases to S. Eliot, A. Graham, A. J. Honeyfield, F. 1\ Hoskin J. B. Mabin, and A. ayme, at an increased rental of £i)7 Ltis 'Jd on the whole.
Miss Jones resigned lier position as sewing mistress, and the secretary was authorised to take ike usual steps to fill the vacancy. Accounts amounting to £ 150 14s 5d were passed for payment. It was decided to draw £'2oo from current account and place it in one of iks banks on deposit. The Board rose.
