ATTEMPTED BANK ROBBERY.
DARING DAYLIGHT BURGLARY ILL-REWARDED PERSFVFRANCE. __J<£t>lved 24th. 0.59 p. m . -—' Sydney, September 24. A daring attempt was made to burgle the Pitt-street branch of the English and Scottish Bank. Entrance was gained bv tapping the electrical wires „f ,1-,. adjoining building and utilising the current to fuse the iron bar over tiie lavatorv, and thence the burglars readied the strong room, whire thev partially fused a ho'e through thr-'heavy steel doors, but were unable to open'them. The attempt evidently occupied from six in the morning to I 1•> in t'le afternoon of Sunday.
The engineer in charge of the electrical supply works noticed unusual fluctuations between these two hours. but was under the impression that a customer was using an extra supply.
