01 Multiform has been allotted fist 4II) for the mile and a quartet race, and that lie is now the ruling favourite. The favouritism evinced for Noctu'form's chance, it may be assumed, rests upon something more than his being allotted an impost well below weight for age, and that something no doubt hinges upon the very important question of condition. The Cesarewitch Stakes comes up for decision at Newmarket on October 10. Mr Mussel! Fleetwood intends being present at tile Wanganui J.C. Meiting. The Committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club might consider the advisableness of reducing some of the stakes at the Autumn Meeting and devote a certain amount to defray the Secivtaiy's expenses in visiting the various rac meetings in the interests of the local b"dv. A larger amount could also probably be devoted to advertising the race meetings than has been done in the past. The Sydney Referee says : —The Metropolitan betting- has been quite ' paralysed by the form of Solution on Saturday. She ran away with the Rawson Stakes in such style that the best offers on Monday were at the rate of about 3 to 1, and that price was actually taken, whilst a number of short-priced doubles were taken with her, starting with several Epsom horses. Noreen just about keeps her p'ace, being a slightly better favourite than Scot Free, whose public run on Saturday was in the Rawson Stakes, and was just about what would be expected from a horse not quite wound up. But Scot Free looks an improved horse in every way, and should be heard from before the spring is over.
Reports from different parts of the colony state that betting- on the New Zealand Cup is practically dormant, many metallicians declaring that never before was such littb interest taken in the big event.
