TYPHOID AT KAPONGA.

In regard to the insanitation of kaponga, the llawera Star, in urging anion to cope with the source of the; outbreaks of typhoid lever, and criticising tilts laches of the Health Department over the matter, says the people are thoroughly aroused, and a monster meeting' is spoken of as a step to insist on the responsible officer taking proper action. It adds : "The tradespeople are all suffering. People who come regularly to town are bringing- their own lunclus, and jome commercial travellers prefer to buy sixpence worth of biscuits and s>t on a fence at some distance lather than go into the hotel.'' The local Town Board has informed the Health Department that within the last twelve months a number of typhoid cases have been re- ( ported to have originated at the ho- 1 tel, and that within the last week the . Board lias received notice of two cases one at the hotel and one traceable to the hotel. The Board might a'so have added that nearly two years ago there was an outbreak of typhoid fr> m the same source, and that out of three cases two proved fatal, whilst before that there were other fever cases. It is really nothing short of monstrous, nay, criminal, that such a menace to the health of the community concerned and the travelling' public should be allowed to exist by the authorities concerned. If something' is not done, and done quickly, Ka ponga will be a nice town to keep away from. We hope the townspeople, now that they have been aroused, will not rest satisfied till the, cause of the periodical outbreaks of the deadly typhoid is complete')' rooted out.
