TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") In a Northern Taranaki paper appears the follow ing : —"To stand tins season, etc., the draught colt Paddy, teims /li 10'. Tabulated pedigree, see 'l'e Roti Stud Hook.' Fancy Te Roti sporting a stud bcok! "Pilot" in Sydney Referee wiiies-: Mr. G. G. Stead's representatives are making good progress at Kandwick, the two-year old Boniform, in particular, having taken the fancy of those who sep the work, lie is only a pony in height, but seemingly he can carry weight, as well as go fast, lluascar is improving, and his seven-furlong spin on Thursday compared favor ably with anything done the same morning. It has yet to be proved wh'ther he can stay, but I do not think he "ill be found wanting- in thai resptct. Jsolt can still be heard I a long way off when galloping, but j a'i the same she is likely to give a good account of herself in her A.j.C. engagements. A deputation of the North Island 1 lorseov. ners' Association waited on the Minister for railways last Saturday to ask that only half rates each way should be charged on horses travelling by rail to race meetings, and that all horse boxe, in the train should be lighted at night. The dep. utation exp ained with reference o • the first request that it was desired to do away with the necessity under the present system of applying for a return of one-half the full rates each tvay now charged by the depaitmert. The Minister said that both requests ■ were mi st reasonable, and he would 1 give them early consideration.
