A deputation of the North Island 1 lorseov. ners' Association waited on the Minister for railways last Saturday to ask that only half rates each way should be charged on horses travelling by rail to race meetings, and that all horse boxe, in the train should be lighted at night. The dep. utation exp ained with reference o • the first request that it was desired to do away with the necessity under the present system of applying for a return of one-half the full rates each tvay now charged by the depaitmert. The Minister said that both requests ■ were mi st reasonable, and he would 1 give them early consideration.
