A British destroyer at Taku and two Biitisj river boats were damaged. At Hongkong- twelve ships wire sunk and twenty-four are ashore. Seven are damaged, including the Polynesian, Saatmore, and Radnorshire. A BISHOP MISSING. Recciv d 2oth. o.iS p.m. Hongkong, September 20. Bishop lloare, of Victoria, Hongkong, who was crossing from the neighbouring islands at the outset of of the stonrjj is missing. Yesterday his launch was found stranded. MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY. THOUSANDS OF CHINESE PERISH. Received 20th, 10.21 p.m. Hongkong, September 20. Lord Elgin telegraphed to Sir Mattiiew Nathan, the Governor, King Edward's deep regret at the calamity. The King was grieved to hear of the immense loss of life among Chinese, and expresses sympathy with the immediate sufferers and the whole ! Hongkong community. The Government also sent condolences. There are indications that several thousands of Chinese water dwellers perished.
