OPUNAKE RACING CLUB. (Frcni Our Own Correspondent.) The annual general meeting of the Opunake Racing Club was held in the Foresters' Hall on Monday evening, when there was a very fair attendance of members. Mr J. R. Stewart presided. The report and balance-sheet was read and adopted. The report showed that the committee had purchased the freehold of the racecourse at .615 pr aero, borrowing by mortgage. The balance-sheet showed assets at ,£10324/3, liabilities .£2O 0/. After some discussion it was resolved that the races be hold next < year on January 1 (Near Year's Day). SOCIAL. On Monday ovoning, in the Town Hall, a farewell social was tendered to Mi and Mrs 15. Ramsay, who are leaving for Hamilton, after some years in business here. There was . a good attendance, and an enjoyable evening was spent in dancing and " card playing, interspersed with singing. Vocal items were rendered by Mrs Ramsay, Messrs Chambers, Gordon, Gray, McDavitt, and Mildcrf- ' hall Mr Go'.die made a capable M.C. . Mr Northrop, painter, of this town, , is also leaving for Hamilton next ' week. The local port was quite busy this , morning. The s.s. Aorere, from Wellington, and s.s. Muritai, from Auckland, arc both discharging cargoes here WEDDING. A quiet but pretty wedding was celebrated at the residence of Ihe bride's parents, Witiora, Oaonui, on Wednesday, September SUI, the contracting parties being Miss Claris*; Kvvleen Sole, eldest (laughter of Mr Charles Sn'e, and Mr Charles llenrv Peperill, son of Mr Robert Peperill, of Oaonui. The bride, who was given away by her father, was dressed in a train gown of white si'k. trim mod with overall lace and white fluted chiffon, and carried a handsome shower bouquet. She was attended by two bridesmaids, her sister, Miss Mabel Sole, being dressed in cream serge, trimmed with overall lice, and Miss Luke (cousin) dressed in pale green and cream lace. The bridegroom was attended bv his brother, Mr Norman Peperill. The Rev. Kawn=ley was the officiating minister. At the conclusion of the ceremony [ the wedding party sat down to a reI cherche breakfast. The young couple received numerous and costly pres ents. In the evening a large number ot young people were entitained to a dance by the bride's parents.'
