EGMONT A. AND P. HORSE PARADE.

(Special Bepohtei!.) The weather being line, there was a large attendance of breeders and the public at tho Horse Parade, hold at the Hawera Show Grounds, on Saturday, under the auspices of the Egmont A. &P. Association. Thirty horses were catalogued and in addition to these several colts took part in the parade. The draught class was splendidly represented, there being 18 stallions of this type in the ring. In addition to the well-known sires in the southern part of the province there were some importations from the South Island, Waitato and the Old Country. The animals for the most part were in splendid "fettle" for this time of the yar. This class of horse in southern 'i'aranali has been marvellously improved during the last half dozen years and no finer specimens could be found in the colony. So uniformly excellent in quality were most of the stallions shown that old breeders were in many cases puzzled as to which horse would be the best to select for the season.

Of thoroughbreds there were seven. Some of these were truly fine looking beauties. In several instances there was lacking the necessary condition to bring out the true symmetry of the tyye. This, however, will be developed perhaps before the season opens in earnest. Most of the animals in this class come from strains of the finest racing blood known in the Antipodes. Some interest was centred in the hackney horse " Victory " recently importecHnto the Eltliam district by Dr. Harrison. Although only three years old this horse is remarkably well furnished. It is rather surprising that more of this type has not been brought into Taranaki, seeing that for general utility purposes and carriage horses there is so big a demand. Four trotting stallions were paraded, and put through theirjpaces. As trotting meetings are likely to come into favor in these parts, there should be good demand for the services of the horses shown.

Ponies—Two attractive entires were the only representatives of this class.
