Grccnslade, M.H.R.'s, Messrs Moore and Smythc (from the King Country), and Messrs G. V. Tait and Joseph Brown (from Taranaki County Council) waited on the Minister of Pub'ic Works today with a number of requests for roads. One of the speakers said that in asking for roads, settlers were really asking for bread.
The principal roads brought under the notice of the Minister were Te Kuiti to Mahoenui, and Junction road from Inglewood to Tarata, Incidentally, the Spotswood settlement came under review. It was stated that only three sections had been taeu 'up by settlers.
This, Mr Hall-Jones promised to bring under the notice of the Minister for Lands. He could not give any undertaking to furnish money for repairing roads that had already been metalled. The matters mentioned by the dputation had previously been brought under his notice by Mr Jennings, and he could only inorm them, as he had the member for Egmont, that he could make no promises until he had carefully reviewed the requests from all parts of the colony. The man in the backblocks would have to receive first consideration He -undertook to carefully study the deputation's requirements, with a view to seeing what could be done when Public Works were being considered.
