RAILWAY SOCIAL.

The Railway Employees' Social evening, instituted and arranged by the New Plymouth Railway, Library and Social Club was a most enjoyable suecess on Thursday night, the foresters' rfall being comfortably filled. His Worship the Mayor was present, and, being invited to speak, montioned the t'ood work that had been done by the club since its inauguration two years ago in proyiding a library and social room for the railway employees, whom he eulogised as the largest, and perhaps the most important branch of the Civil Service. The social was well arranged. A couple of hours' dancing, an hour's euchre-playing, more dancing, a few songs, supper, more songs and dancing, made a very pleasant programme. Messrs H. H. tford, J, Hoskin, andE. Zing were the M.C. s. A capital ladies' committee, comprising Mesdames Pepprell, 81mmonds, Ford, Riddick. Dutßn, W. W. Thomson, C. E. Seabright, and King presided over an excellent supper arrangement, assisted by the business" like secretary, Mr S. G. Smith. Mr Garry's orchestra supplied the music. M.rs Simmonds and Mr Robb were the winners of ihe euchre tournament prizes. Daring the supper adjournment Mr Hodge, president of the club, thanked the ladies' committee for their generous assistance.
