CORRESPONDENCE.
THE OKEY PRESENTATION. (To the Editor.) Sir,—l have been very much surprised and intensely annoyeel to find that tin; presentation to be made to our esteemed fellow-settler, Mr H. J. 11. 'pere way be a small minority of the subscribers who are in accord with this movement, but I think if the great majority were consulted they would be strong.'y averse to any such thins. As a settler hen I ,' and particularly as chairman of the County Council {or a number of years, 'Mr . Okey tTis charged his public duties m a singularly efficient manner, which has had the'cjiecl of inducing subscriptions towards the testimonial, and it is to be vurv much regretted thai any effort should be made to make political capital out of what was intended merely as a recognition for special services gratuitous 1 )' rendcrecl to the body politic. Trickery of this kind, that has endeavoured to work an Oi!|»isi|ion demonstration cut of tips friendly art on the part of subscribers, is' unworthy of anyone calling himself a man—l am ,etc, SUBSCRIBER. P.S.—Whilst making this protest, I wish it to be understood that 1 never voted for the Seddon Government. —"S."'
