Mr J. C. George, with his son Eric, leaves about the middle of October on a visit to the Old Country. Mr Dan O'Brien purposes leaving on Saturday next for Sydney, where he will be present at the A.J.C. Spring Meeting. Mr It. L. Stanford, S.M., of Wanganui, arrived in New Plymouth last evening, and, with his wife, is spending a few days holiday in town. The Dunedin " Star " predicts tirnt Sir William Kussell will be called to the Upper House when the new batch of Legislative Councillors is treated. A Press wire from Guborne states there were 20 applications for the position of borough engineer. At midnight the Council had the names reduced to two, viz., Mr L. 11. Blockwcll, of Newcastle, New South Wales, and Mr E. H, Gibbon, formerly of New Plymouth, The Tarannki Battalion intends maktug a presentation to Colonel Okcy as n mark of its appreciation of his long and valuable service in Taranaki volunteering circles. It had been intended to mike the presentation some time ago, but the article had to be procured from England and is not yet to hand.
