NEW ZEALAND'S DWELLINGS.
The census returns show that there are 197,003 dwellings (including tents) in New Zealand. Classified they show the following occupied buildings:—Private houses, 174,8X3; hotels, 1288; boarding houses, 1745; others 1155. The unoccupied dwell ings number 11,279, and those in course of construction 1267 and tents (5381) brine- the total up to 197,003. Another table, giving particulars of the materials used in construction, is also interesting. The details are as follows :—Brick, stone, or concrete 8350; «ood. iron, or lath and plaster. 178,551; cob or sod, 1213 ; raupo 42 ; huts of all kinds, 651: ether and not stated. 2806; tenu 5351. Total. 197, 003. The following gives the capac ity of the buildings:—One room—brick, stone ,wood, and iron. 6(64: cob, raupo, huts, and tents, 5894: two rooms, 9651; three and four rooms. 47,098; five and six rooms.GS, 390; over six rooms. 45,185; number of rooms not stated. —1575.
