WEST END SCHOOL CONCERT.

There was an overflowing audience at the concert in the West End school last night in aid of the uniform fund. Mr Nixon entertained the juveniles in one of the class rooms with a magiclantero, which was keenly enjoyed. The concert which was a distinct success in every way, opened with a piano duet by the Misses Ward which was encored. A duet "In (he dusk of Tw-ligUt," by the Misses Buckland was loudly encored, and they re-appeared in a duet entitled " The Elyes .Dance." Miss Chong sang " Love is Meant to Make ns Glad" in capital style and had to re-appear, giving as an encore, " I couldn't, could I?" which quite took the fancy of the audience and was loudly applauded. The chorus company then rendered " What the Brass' Band Played," the solo part being taken by Mr J. Ambury, The comic song "My Sal," by Mr Hume, provided plenty of laughter, and he had to re-appear, telling how " Father laid the carpet on the stairs." Cornwall's band played " The regulation march" m good style. Mr Beadle sang " Nancy Lee" nicely, and following this was a violin and piano duet by the little Misses Fuller (pupils of Mr F. Cornwall), and they were recalled, A nigger troupe of the elder boys sang " Bazors in the air," and were encored. The second part was opened by a trio "Alice, where art thou," by Misses Salt, Golding and Deare, A " Slave song," by Miss Douglas and a song by Mr F. Cornwall," What care I," were well reserved, after which iliss C. Buckland gaye " Farewell to summer," in excellent style, and had to re-appear, singing "Curly Headed Baby," which was also encored, A selection by Cornwall's band (Mandoline and guitar) followed. Mr Wilkes sang "True till deaih'" in good style, and double encores were awaided Miss Nixon for her items " To-night," and " Botebud," " Home to Dixey" by the Nigger troupe, finished a most entertaining programme The Chairman, Mr H. J. Gilbert, thanked all] those who assisted, and announced that the school would be given a holiday to-day. Every credit is due to Mrs Dowling and the staff, and also the Jperformers, for the great success of the function.
