CIIA.MBER OF COMMERCE SUPPORT. Tito members of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce discussed Hie Opuuake railway ipicstiou on Friday night, Mr Ken-ton ICtng (chairman) delivering his report on the Stratford meeting, to which he was present as a delegate from the Chamber. The Stratford Chamber of Commerce forwarded a copy of the resolutions passed at the recent public meeting in Stratford, asking that the line be started from Hie Opumilce end. A further letter enclosed, copy of a petition for signature. The meeting did not endorse the proposal concerning the start from Opttualce, and Mr C. W. Govett moved that the members of the Chamber and the public be recommended to sign a petition urging the necessity for the construct ton of a, railway connecting Opunake with the present railway system, and urging on the Government to commence it at the earliest possible date, Mr S. Shaw seconded, and said lie was glad the Chamber was giving a practical denial lo the report that New Plymouth [was not in sympathy with lite Opunake people in this matter. | The motjon was carried, nod Mr J. B. Council was appointed to form one of the provincial deputation to wait oil the Government, the Chamber defraying expenses.
