MUNICIPAL REPRESENTATIVES' SPLEEN.

Hokitika, September ?T" A very heated scene occurred at the Borough Council meeting this evenig-, the Mayor (Mr Michel) ac- - cused Councillor Clarke of having made slanderous statements against him and other councilors, which he forcibly resented. He also charged Cr. Clarke with having taken money illegally from another local body' and being the tool of a small political clique. The Mayor moved a iesoluuon strongly condemning the action of Cr. Clarke, who attempted to reply, but the Mayor declared the meeting closed. Earlier in the evening the Mayor accused ex-Mayor— Mandl with having illegally taken away from the town clerk's office a number of enrolment forms, causing forty-eight ratepayers to be disfranchised at the recent borough byeelection.
