LATE NATAL CRISIS.
IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT'S APPRECIATION. Received ijtH, 8.3? {Jjg, Pietermaritzourg. a. pumper 4. Lord Elgin, in a despatch to Sir H. McAl'um, dated the 2nd, expresses the Imperial. Government's appreciation of Natal'S courage and self-reliance in meeting the recent emergency and rejoices that the strain has ended. He adds that the conduct of tfie troops was admirable, supported by a determination of aelf-restraint by both the Government and the people. The Imperia. Government was prepared at any time to render ass,stance and was jglad thc necessity had not arisen. The judgment and moderation shown in the commutation of the Courtmartial sentence would inspire the hope that peacd would be ut-es tablished on a basis of justice and good feeling. Lord Elgin also con veyed his personal congratulations to Sir H. McAHum. The latter, on behalf of his Ministers, sent an appropriate rcp'y.
