Great interest was taken in the eventoenth lnter-Provincial match between the Rugby football reps, of Auckland and Wellington, played here to-day, and the contest, which was for tho lUnfurly Shield, was witnsssed by about 11,000 spectators. The Aucklanders were slightly favourites, but in point of weight there was nothing between the teams and both sides were •a splendid condition to see out a fast and strenuous game. It was we'll that fiey were, for the pace was tremendous throughout, and Auckland's victory by 11 points (a try converted, a goal from a mark, and a penalty goal) to 5 (a try Jonverted) was due to the superiority if the local forwards, coupled with Oufty's fine goal kicking. Had the Wellington backs been given half a diancc, they would have caused trouble, but the home forwards were town on them like tigers, and smother;il them before they eould got going, for Auckland, Wynyard scored a beautifully from a passing rush, cut.ing in very cleverly, while for Welling. :on Thomson scored as a result of his ;reat pace.
