The Ladies' Plain and Fancy flress ball, given as a return to the bachelors was held in the Rahotu Hall on Wednesday evening, and proved ar. unqualified success. Over So couple.werc present, a large number of whom attended in fancy costume, and one and a!! were unanimous in their verdict that it was "the most successful function held this season," and the ladies are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts. The kaleidoscopic effect produced by tin variegated hues of the ladies' dresses mingling with the more sombre dress of their partners was further enhanced by the tasteful manner in which the ha" had been decorated with nikau and clematis, relieved with Chinese lanterns. The floor was in excellent order, and perfect music was provided by Messrs Knowles (piano), Duncan (violin), Fischer (cornet), the only deterrent being that dancing space was rather limited, Messrs James Barr Brown and Mor row made efficient' M.C.'s.
