The N ATI VIC MINISTER moved the second reading, explaining that it was in most respects the same as the Bill lie line! introduced last year. Mr AITKEN objected to the, interference of the Bill with the four centres uliere the arrangements f r dealing- with fire were the best in the colony. The House resumed at 7.30. Mr AITKF.N, continuing, explained that though he pointed out anom'lies, he liked the Bill generally. Mr MANDER thought the smaller towns ought to have more consideration than the four centres, which liavj more, money. Mr WILFORD liked the Bill for making the fire, companies pay. Mr DAVEY feared Ihe Bill would destroy the volunteer fire brigades. Mr BARBER and Mr FLATMAN supported the Bill. The Hen. McGOW'AN withdrew his opposition in consequence of the amendments made. The Hon. Mr CARROLL replied and the Bill was read a second time on tho voices.
