It is stated that Mr Poynton, gaoler at Hokitika, has been promoted to the charge of Wellington Terrace Gaol, vice the late Mr Garyey. Mr Milltng--10:1, the chief warder in the latter prison, who has been in charge since Mr Garvey's death, will become gaoler at New Plymouth, replacing Mr O'Brien, who is retired from the service at his own request. Mr Millington's present position will be tilled by Mr Coyle, clerk and principal warder in the Terrace Gaol, The changes are to take ertieet from Saturday next, ]sl September.—Press wire. Mr A. P. O'Leary, director of the Melbourne Clothing Company in New Plymouth and Stratford, has returned to New Plymouth from a world's tour, including visits to Australia, England, America and the Continent of Europe. Mr J. Ryland Cruickshank, representing Messrs Collett and Co., of Cardiff (England) and New Plymouth, arrived in New Zealand by the Sonoma from San Francisco, and lauded in New Plymouth 011 Tuesday. Mr Cruickshank takes over the management of the firm's New Plymouth connection. •
