FOOTBALL.
WANGANUI V. WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. Wanganuj, August 28. The football match, Wauganui v. Wellington, was played to-day in fine weather, There was a large attendance, and the game onded in a rather easy victory for 'Wellington by 22 points to 3. Tko homo team played a good hard game, but the cleverness of Roberts and Wallace proved too much for them. The defence of this pair, and Spencer, the full back, was responsible directly or indirectly for all the scoring. Their running and dodging evoked hoarty applause. With the exception of the playors mentioned, i ho Wellington team did uot appear to be a particularly brilliant combination, their play nit quite realising anticipations. D.rectly after the start Wanganm got on a great rush, and Ifogm stored from a lino out near tho Wellington line. Wellington soon got going, and scored at intervals through, out the remainder of the game. For the winners Roberts (two), Hardham aul Manning scored tries, of which Spencer converted two and lacked a penalty goal, while Roberts also kicked a penalty goal. Mr P. (J. The Wellington footballers will pass, through New Plymouth to-night en route for Auckland, where they will mako an endeavor to wm the Kanfurly Shield from the Auckland representatives.
