For the first since its inauguration, the Wellington Post and Telegraph Rifles t)ike part in this year's International Postal Rifle Match, which will be fired simultaneously on September 6th by teams representing; the Post and Telegraph Rifle Clubs of London and several of the British' colonies. The conditions are ten men aside, 200, 500, and 600 yds, seven shots.

Auckland. August 27. Mr Burns, Canadian Exhibition Commissioner, arrived yesterday. He stated that having- p'referental trade relations with New Zealand, Canada desires to cultivate a closer spirit of commercial reciprocity. Tho new mail contract is likely to bring the two countries closer together. Canada would display 600 tons of exhibits, including over 75 manufacturing displays; in fact everything that would assist to advertise the Dominion. Canadians were taking ,a lively interest in New Zealand, and thero was a probability of large numbers of visitors during the Exhibition.

Palmcrston North, August 27. At the S.M. Court this morning, Christiana Mary Sylvester was committed for trial to the Supreme Court, Palmcrston North, on a charge of committing bigamy by going through a form of marriage with Geo. Hobbs, she being- already married to Henry, Sylvcsu-r. Bail was allowed. Wellington, August 27. Representations have been made to the Minister for Labour regarding the system under which workmen's homes are to lie balloted for. Itias been pointed out that applicants haveto pay a month's rent and a guinea for registration fee before they can have a chance in the ballot. The Minister replied that he had not iy a d time to go into the regulation. Some check was required to prevent gambling, but personally he thought it time enough' to ask for the rent when the man had got his house, and if it was necessary to charge a guinea fee i t should bo spread over a period. The Government had no des.re to take money, out of the scheme, but it must he put on a self supporting basis
