The Hon. F. Arkwright has resignd his scat in the Legislative Council as he purposes permanently residing' in England. Mr James Davidson, a widely known llawera settler, celebrated the seventieth annivcrsacy of his birthday yesterday. At \Y;anganui, on Saturday morning, the death occurred of the Rev. A. 11. TrcadweU. The late Mr
Troadwcll had "hut been in good health for a considerable time, but on first taking charge at llawera the change from the South Island had Appeared to be beneficial (says the "Star"). However, about twelve months ago a serious affection of the chest or throat manifested itself, and
it was discovered that there was a growth. This failed to yield to treatment and proved to be cancer, though for some little time it appeared to be checked. About three weeks ago, however, the doctors pronounced that death was imminent, and Mr TrcadweU remained in Wanganui, resigning his patoral charge at llawera, and calmly and manfully prepared for the end. Mr Treadwell during his comparatively short slay in Hawera especially endeared himself to his congregation by his fine character, and people of all creeds and classes soon came to appreciate him very highly, and there will be very general regret at his death. He was a son of the Rev. Mr Treadwell, who for many years was in charge of the Presbyterian dause in W'anganui. He leaves a wife (daughtr of Mr P. Bell, of Wanganui) and two children-
