At the M-ngis'rates Court, before Mr Ivcttln, S.M., a middle aged man mmed .rames Mackny, alias Holt, alias iamilton, alias Dwyer, alias Dunne, yas charged with 16 offence? of orgery and breaking and entering. Accused raado a written statement acknowledging having committed tlie utcnces. He bad made ackuowledg.ucnl, he said, without any pressure trom Detective Hill, recognising the lccessity of saving expenses as much s possible. Chief Detective Marsack cud that accused liad made a specialty >f forging and breaking and entering, uuring the past few months he had jroltcn into soveral country houses, md stolen account, and blank cheque orrns. Armed with these, he would very kindly pay accounts with forged meques. He would make out tt ■hpque for more than the amount of he account, and consequently received the change. At the present time, ha vas undergoing a sentence of seyen ,'oars', having been arrested at Napier tor a like offence. Tho accused had the police every assistance in clearing up the offences committed in Auckland. Evidence was then given u support of the charges. On being asked if he had anything to say, accused said he wished tfce cases to lie disposed of as soon as possible, as 'ie could not settle clown to his sen. lence (meaning tho one he is now serving) Accused pleaded guilty to ill the charges, and was committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence
