Mr M. J. Brookes, manager of tho Dresden Piano Company, is at present in New Plymouth, , Mr Geo. Livingston, auctioneer, Ne;v Plymouth, left yesterday on a flying visit to the South Island. Ho will be absent for a week.

Our Stratford readers will be pleased to learn that the little son of Constable Hyde, of Stratford, who recently underwent an operation in tho Now Plymouth. Hospital, is progressing splendidly, A cable message recoiyed in Wellington annoances the safety of Mr and Mrs C. F. White (son-in-law aDd daughter ot Mrs Dr. Grace, of Uawkesstone street), who have been residents of Los Andes, 60 miles from Valparaiso, for somo time past. The " Daily Times" understands that Mr A. Wilson, M.A., having accepted the editorship of the "New Zealand Times," as from January next, has intimated to the Board of Governors his desire to be relieved of his duties as Koctor of the Otago Boys' If igh School. —Press Association.

His many friends will bo sorry to learn that the Kev. Mr Treadwell's condition is now such as to hold out no hope of rccoyory (says the " Hawera Star"). At the conclusion of tho service in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday moraing the preacher, Key Mr White, said : " I am here to-day at the request of Mr Trend well to perforin a duty, and as i love him, and enjoy his love, I could not refuse that request. He asked me to tell you, his people, that he will not be able to be with you again, that his days are numbered, and that ho will not be able to come even to say good-byo. lam sorry for his sake, for your sake, for his wife's sake, and for the sake of the church he loves so well. We can only stand by and say, ' Thy will be done.' I am sure he will have your fervent prayers ia his hour of ailliction."
