PEE TEESS ASSOCIATION. Dunedix, August 22. At the Supreme Court to-day, Willi im Thomson, found guilty of shooting with intent at a man named Fibbis, at Kaitangita, was sentenced to two years. The Drainage Board is now without an engineer. Mr Manchester, of Melbourne, who had been appointed, arr'ved yesterday, and this morning, after seeing the acting-Engineer and the Chair .nan of the Works Committee, he de:ided not to accept the position, but to return to Melbourne. His reasons, according to a conversation, were that there were detailed plans of a scheme, and detached pieces of the work had been done, bnt it was not possible for a stranger to pick up the threads and carry out the scheme. Had there been plans, he would have been prepared to gt on. As the Board had nothing before it but this conversati in, and as Mr Manchester would no', attend the meeting, the Board adjourned till next morning, when Mr Manchester has promised to attend. A poll was taken to-day on a proposal to raise a loan for laying newgas mams in the city, when [ll)(i valid votes were recorded, of which 519 were cast in favor, giving a majority of IS2.
