TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
The Land Board met on Tuesday. Present: Messrs F. Simpson (Commissioner of Crown Lands), lies--1»P, katicnbury, and McCluggage.

Ciochette, section 2, block 4, Opaku, syi acres; A. Davey and Charles Nesbit, section g, block 12, Mimi, 511 acres; G. 11. Gipkins, section 5, block y, Kapara, 335 acres ; F. Hickford, section 6, block 8, Opaku 1051 acres. All under O.R.P. conditions.—Approved. W. Jurgcns having withdrawn his application, section 14, block %, para, is open for application. The Under-Secretary of Lands has written to the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr F. Simpson), I stating his opinion that the Board was quite right in its manner of dealing with an application for transfer of a lease in the Tokaoro settlement, Hawera, and considers it the duty of the Board in every such case to inquire whether the 1 amount to be paid for the goodwill will not hamper the transferee so as prevent his successfully farming hi* holding. The course taken is, ii* says, in accordance with the procedure of other Land Boards in simil® 1 cases. TRANSFERS. The following were applied for : P. Schultz to J. The application of W. Chamberlain was deferred for further inquiry and that of T. M. Webb was approved conditionally upon the improvements being completed within 12 months. In the latter case, upon payment of the rent due to date, no iuilher demand is to be made upon the transferee for rent until the expiration of the original term of four years' exemption. All other matters were approved. SUB-LEASE.
The following were approved:— J. Harre to C. M. llawken, sections 6a, 7a, and 9, block xi., Fonatu; ]. C. llarre to C. M. Hawken, sections 0 and 7, block 11, Ponatu; W. Towiishend and C. Galloway, section 26, block 14, Cape; O. J. Priest to R. N. White, section 4,/ block 4, Huiroa. GENERAL. E. Tolme, assistant .'ranger, reported on the inspection Of 10. holdings, comprising- an area of 7757 acres. Improvements required, .£1612; effected, £2402. Eight selectors residing where residence not yet required. Six have not effected suliicient improvements.—J. he necessary action is to be taken in cases of default. J. Griffin will be allowed to continue in occupation of the house on section 36, block 4, I'aritutu, Spotswood Settlement, forfeited by him, as a weekly tenant, upon payment of 7/O per week in advance.
The ranger reported on section 6, block 4, Opaku, and did not recommend any alteration in the existing boundaries. —Adopted. The assistant ranger reported having resumed possession of section 2, block 11, Totoro, and valued the improvements thereon.—Adopted. G. Coleman applied for a lease of part of the Railway Reserve adjoining subsection y of section 1, l'ukengahu, block I.—A yearly tenancy was granted, at 0/ per acre per annum.
The following improved farm settlers were dealt with for non-observ-ance of conditions : —P. Oucey, section 28, block 14, Ohura: Forfeited. J. Harris, section y, block 1, Aria: Explanation accepted as satisfactory. J. Kearns, section 0, block 2, lleao: Forfeited. T. E. Doyle, section 24, block 3, Ohura: Final extension of three months granted. Geo. Benson, section 11, block 10, Ohura: Six months' further extension granted. E. Dougherty, section tj, block 13, Ohura : Six months' extension of time granted, owing to illness. The assistant ranger reported that D. McK.cnzic( whose interest in section 2, block 13, Ohura, was forfeited, on the 20th June last, had now commenced to improve and reside upon his section.—The resolution of forfeiture was rescinded. A. It. Lee applied to be allowed to take fencing timber from Crown lands, section 13, block 14, Ohura, as there was none on his holding, section 14.—Approved, subject to supervision by the ranger, and payment of royalty. r. W. Wake, solicitor, wrote that he was arranging for the interest of J. Reynolds in section 7, block 4, Omona, to be sold by the Registrar of the Supreme Court under power of sale contravened in mortgage.— Final extension of six months granted. J. N. Murray wrote on behalf of his wife, Agnes Murray, asking for action in the matter of section 16, block 3, and section 5, block 4, Ngatimaru, be delayed until the lion. Minister of Crown Lands considered his appeal against the decision o[ the Board.—That the Superintendent of the Advances to Settlers' Office be given three months' notice of intention to forfeit.
The following grants of timber and tramway rights were approved: —G. W. Collins to W. B. Davies, section 4, block 5, Egmont; W. B. Davies to G. W. Collins, section 5, block .5, Egmont. Mrs J. M. Mehaffy intimated that she had sublet section 62, block 4, Paiitutu, for three months to Mr J. Jenkinson.—Approved. The I law-era County Council submitted proposals for expenditure of .£276 10/7, accrued thirds.—Agreed to.
Mesdanics L. S, T. Lord and W. 11. Nairn applied for a lease of section 6, block 15, Omona, in front of their section s.—Yearly lenancv granted at a rental to be fixed.
The assistant ranger reported on the application of M. T. West, to select section 14, block q, Totoro, as an addition to his holding-.—The application was refused, and the land will be dealt with under the improved farm conditions.
J. MrClure apnlied for a re hearing of the forfeiture of sections 7 and 10, block 1, Aria, and the assistant ranger's report was read.— Resolution of forfeiture rescinded.
Mortgage applications were approved.
