The astonishing growth of the Taranaki wool, sheepskins, hides, and tallow sales is shown in Mr Newton King's report of the last salo, held at Stratford on Tuesday last. Threo months ago sales of this kind were unknown h Taranaki, and many valuable hides-,-calf skins, and sheep skins were allowed to go to waste for want of a local market, where they could be converted into roßdy money, or olse heavy freights were incurred in sending them away. Mr King, with characteristic '
foresight and enterprise, decided to institute sales, choosing Stratford as the
site, on sooount of its central position. The success of the undertaking d<s pended on getting outsido buyers to attend, in order that full value oould bo realised by full competition. This was possible only by submitting a largo ' r ~' catalogue from which buyers could accruo a consignment sufficient to war* rant the expending of time and money • m attending the sales.
