CORRESPONDENCE.
COI'N'TY KATES. 10 THE EDITOK, Sin,—l have been waiting for some abler pen than miue to enter its protest agamst the aciion of the County Council in levying the bridge loan rate, in addition to the full id rate. Such a course seems to me most extraordinary seeing that the riding allocations for the year have not yet been made, and considering that there has been sucli a large increase in the valuations. The Chairman's action in appealing to the Clerk as to the amount of rate required was a most lamentable admission of iguorance and a most improper [ proceeding in view of the fact that the I Clerk receives a commission upon the amount of rates collected, I trust that at the next meeting of the Council some member will have suiHcicnt backbone to divide the Council upon tiic question, so that the ratepayers may liaye something to go upou at next election.—l an, etc., Ratei'.vveb.
