THE EXHIBITION.
*- „ TARANAKI representation. A meeting of the New Plymouth committee of the above was held at t lie Borougli Chambers on Wednesday evening. Present, Mr E. Docki'iil (Mayor), Messrs Okey, Ambury, Goodacre, Sole, Coin's, Patou, Bellringcr, E. M. Smith, IK, 11., an I Malono. Mr .Ualone, who had addressed the citizens in the various centres, reported that he had received a fair amount of encouragement from most quarters. All the towns in the province favored Tarauaki being represented at the Exhibition, and local committees had been set up to raise funds in each district, and lo appoint a delegate to the Provincial Committee. Patea had responded to the tune of £so—£2s each from the Borough C-uncil and County. The speaker thought there was a growing feeling that tho local bodies should supply funds. He had heard t,hat Ha wera had so far raised anout £25. Reports from other centres had not yet come in but the whole province was favorably disposed towards the project. Tt was estimated that about £3OO was the amount required to represent the province Mr Dockrell and Mr Ambury had hy subscriptions secured about £llO ivlneh added to that raise I in other parts already brought the total to about flS 1 ). Mr Malone thought the other centres could be depended upon to provide the balance required It was resolved that Mr Malone be I requested lo eommuiicate with the various committees, and arrange a conference at Stratford on Tuesday, 28th iusl. M-ssrs Malone and Coin's were appointed delegates to attend tho mee'iu i. Messrs Paton and Bedford were appointed a sub-committee to dra r t the sia'istieal data required for a booklet, which it has been suggested will be printed. Messrs Talc (Chairman of the Tarauaki County Council), H. Bedford, Council, Pah', and I). Berry were added to tho New Plymouth, committee. Resolved that Messrs Coll is, E. M. Smith, M.H.R., Percy Smith, and Coo lucre he a sub-conimitlee to deal ■with drafting of literary matter, and [get up of the booklet. Mr Jennings, M.M.R., wrote regarding his inability to attend, and forwarding a donation of LI Is.
