WESTERN PARK CONCERT.
Tho enthusiasm of the Western Park workors made it a foregone conclusion that St. Mary's Hall would be packed on Tuesday night on the occasion of the concert arrangod for the purpose of raising the initial funds for the Western Park bazaar. A fitting opening to a pleasing concert was a splendid orchestral piece by Cornwall's Band. The ".Regulation" March was tho selected piece, and " Manda. lay" was giyen as an encore. Mrs Rich gave a pleasing treatment of " Sweet Home," thoagli volume was somewhat lacking. Mr Cooper's " Use Diplomacy" was a most amusing item. Mrs Haslam'a recitation was vociferously encored, " Her Letter " boing no less successful than tho eue>rc number, "An Old Man's Warning." A well-received item was the duet "Anchored," by Messrs /Cooke and Grey, the voices blending as they should, and inspiring the necessary "go" into the song. Miss Chong scored a success, as usual, her " Laddie andhis Liss," meeting with such apapproval that she Unci to give " Castanelfc" as an encore. "The Boys of the Old Brigade " found a worthy exponent in Mr Sliiirpe, and Miss Ward and Mr Deare contributed an excellent instrumental duct, "The Broken Melody." The strains had scarce died away when Messrs F. G. Hume. S. Binnington, and Mallett gave their side-splitting trio " Three Crows," the antics taking on immensely. The second part opened with tho pianoforte duct " Courent Bells," in which the Misses A. and F. Ward scored a distinct success. "When the Birds go Xorth As>ain" was a mist pleasing number, Miss Taylor scoring a distinct hit, and being compelled to repeat the last verse. Mr Ijinuiugtjii's " BasS'.iou " an 1 " Troubles " were great laughter provokers, and Mr Thompson showed considerable histrionic talent in his recilahon, "The Quack Doctor." Miss Aiusworlh contributed an excellent item, "The b'light of Ages," and Miss Blake's sweet "Slumber Sang" won hearty plaudits from the house. " Evergreen " was the title of the instrumental item contributed by Cornwill's Baud, winch retains its very line set of players. Tho programme was thoroughly appreciated, and the whole concert admirably arranged. It would certainly bear repetition.
