The local forwards were rather heavier than tiie southerners, but the visitors all round were a likely looting lot. In the first spell, Canterbury, with a strong wind behind them, stored six points to Auckland's three (all goals), but the locals had a bit ihe best of (he game. In the second half, playing with the wind, Auckland ran over their oppjnenls, and put on another 2(i points, while Canterbury failed to score, the locals thus winning by 2!) to u. The winners "were altogether too powerful for the visitors in the forwards, and their sweeping rushes were irrestible, the forwards leading the way to most of the scores. Dufiy, the Auckland full-back, gave a Hue exhibition of goal kicking, mi.-sing only one.
