PERSONAL.

Mr H. W. Climie, of Stratford, is on | a visit to New Plymouth. Mr C. E. Major, M.H.R. for Hawera, was in town yesterday. Mr Fagan returned from the South last evening aud will, as usual, wield the hammer at Messrs Bewley and Griffiths' sale to-day. The Government has appointed Frank Reid to succeed John Hayes as Inspecting engineer to the Mines Department.

Mr W. J. Penn, editor of our evening, contemporary, returned to New Plymouth on Friday evening by the express train, after a ,y,cry pleasant trip to the Is'anis and Australia. Mr Penn feels mich invigorated as the result of his holiday.
