BUBNSIDE MARKET REPORT. TEE I'BESS ASSOCIATION. Dcxedin, August 10. Fat cattle: 228 yarded, which proved in excess of requirements. Prices dropped, from IDs to los per head iu consequence, although very superior sold up to last week's rates. Best bullocks £9 15s to £ll, extra to £l2 17s (id.
Fat sheep : 2,332 penned,principally well linished lines. Prices were easier all round, especially in half-finished lines, which suffered a drop of Is fid per head. Best wethers 23s to 2ls lid, extra to 275. Good wethers 20s (id to 22s (id, best ewes 18s to 20s, extra to 22s t)d, good ewes 14s to 17s (id.
Fat lambs: SISO penned. Prices ruled much the same as last week. Best lambs 17s to 18s, good lambs Ms to 16s.
Pigs i 117 yarded, for the mint part light buconers. Values wereundianged for small sorts, which met with a brisk sale, Porkers and baconers were fully a farthing a pound dearer than at last week's market. Suckers 8s to 10s, slips 12s to lGs, stores 19s to 25s| porkers 35s to 41s, light baconers 44s to 48s, heavy baconers 51s to 565, choppers up to G3s.
DTJNEDIN GRAIN MARKET. PEE PBE9S ASSOCIATIOX. DI'NEDIN, August 10 Wheat: The demand for prime milling has been fairly brisk, but growers are inclined to hold; consequently the quantity changing hands is small. Prime milling 3s od to 3s 6d, Tuscan 3s 7£u, medium 3s 3d to 3s 4£d, whole fowl feed 3s Id to 3s 2d, broken and damaged 2s 9d to 3s (sacks extra). Oats: The demand has been very dull, and confined almost to 'ocal feed lines. ExroH business is n'most at a standstill. Prime milling 2s 3J-d to 2s 4d, good to best feed 2s 2d to 2 s 3d nferior 2s to 2s Id (sacks extra).
BUCKLAND &. SON'S REPORT Per Press Association. Auckland, August 19. Horses.—There was a Rood yarding. Draughts made £22 10s to £'4o, young horses suitable for butchers' carts £lB 10s to £25 10s, superior hacks and harness £ls to £24., ordinary to £l4 10s, ponies £2lss to £0 15s. At Kemuera beef was in full market, and prices were slightly lower. Steers to 23s per hundred, cows to 22s hundred. Sheep were slightly easier. Wethers sold to 275, ewes to 21s, hoggets to 21s, lambs 235. Pigs were in usual supply and sold well.
MR NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY I AUCTION REPORT.
At the Haymarket on Saturday, owing no doubt to the squally weather, only a few pigs came forward. Werners made 12s Od to iCs, small stores 20s to 345. Fruit and shelter trees sold at low prices At the mart hens made Is to Is Bd, pullets 2s to 2s 6d, cockerels Is 2d to 2s Id, ducks Is 8d to 2s. A large quantity of furniture were disposed of at prices in favor of purchasers.
Fruit: I held sales during the week at which the following prices were realised: Dessert apples 9s to 12s, cookers 7s to Bs, oranges 7s to 9s, l.mons 4s Od, bananas lAd to 2d. On Monday at Carrmgton I held a clearing sale on account of Mr If. R. Riley. The cows, which were a nice lot and all early calvers, met with good competition. Springers made £6 to £7 10s, October and November caivcrs £3 to £llos, spring heifers £3 5s to £5, calves ICs Od, harness mare £25, spring iray £',», store pigs Its to 19s od. The same day at Rowan 1 held a clearing sale of Mr A. E. Putt's dairy herd, farm implements, etc There was a good attendance and everything sold at satisfactory prices. Cows close to profit made £7 to £'J 15s, late I'alvcrs £1 lo.i to £0 Ills, empty cows £1 9s to £3 15s. heifers £:) 2s Od to C 5 12s Od, bulls £3 10s to £5, light draught horses £1!) 10s to £2:!, mares £lO 17s (id to £l3, sows £5 to £0 15s, store pigs 23s to 21s, seed potatoes li! to 5d per lb., implements, etc., sold well.
At Strallord on Tuesday there was a good yarding of both store and dairy cattle; the former class were in belter demand and nearly everything sold at improved prices. Calves to yearlings lis to 235, 2.year steers i'2 13s Gd, 18-month to 2 year heifers 30s to 355, store cows 2s to 3Us, forward do. £2 to i'2 Ills, hoggets 13s lOd. In the dairy pens a lot of good con's were offered, Mr I! Dingle's dairy attracting special attention, the cows being a really good lot and in splendid condition and sold up to £'J 15s; on account of other vendors L3ss to LO. A large number of other cows were yarded but the majority were on the old side and for these there was little competition except for tinning purposes, and it was quite apparent that dairymen realise the futility of buying old and worn out animals. A line lot of springing heifers came forward and all close to calving sold well, but backward calycrs were hard to quit and yendors of this class would do well in their own inter, c.its to only yard those which arc showing down well. Forward springers made Ll 10s to La 15s, backward springers L2lolo L 3 15s. On Wednesday at Uaouui I held a clearing sale on account of .Mr W. White. The cows were an exception - ally good lot mostly early calvers and being in the pink of condition mel with keen competition, the herd of 02 head (which included two heifers and two or three cows with faulty udders) averaging L 7 3s Cd. Early calvers made L 7 to LlO, cows at a profit Lo 5s to L 7 10s, heifers in calf L 3 His to L 5 ss, Holstein bull L 7 ss, trap horse L2O 10s, spring dray Llo ss.
The same day at Ma.la.pu I held a clearing sale on account of Mr G. O'iSullivan, when everything sold at satisfactory prices. Cattle were yarded considerably in excess of advertised numbers, a lar«e proportion being springing heifers, the demand for which was nut keen except for good qualify forward calvers. Young cattle met with more enquiry, 18 mos to 2 year steers especially making improved prices. yards were occupied. Bidding started away with a rush and kept the auction rer busy right up to the finish. Judging from competition, we are satisfied that better prices will be available in the near future.
We quote:—Calves lfis 6d, yearlings 16s (id to 255, 18 months heifers 32s Gd, 18 months mixed 37s (id to 455, store cows 26s Od to 52s (id, springing heifers £1 7s 6d to £6, ditto cows 49a to £5, 2\ year steers 53s to 62s 6d, fat cows £4 19s, dairy cows 46s to £5 10s, bull 555, hack 27s 6d.
At Waitara on Tuesday wc had a small entry, but everything sold. Calves made 7s (id lo 18s, 18 months hiefcrs 35s (id, store cows 27s to 38s, fat cows £3 los, springing cows £3 Bs. fld to £4 2s, ditto heifers £3 to £3 8s (id, horse £lB, wethers 225. Wc had a goodly number of buyers at Mr J. Saywcll's clearing sale, bidding was keen from the start right up to the conclusion of tho sale. The agricultural implements made good prices and the dairy cows (a fine lot) realised an average of £7 2s 6d.
STOCK AINU SHARE QUOTATIONS. The following are the latest quotations »b revised by Mr Walter Bewley, New Plymouth;—
The sharemarket has been quiet during ike week for investment ; stocks and mining lines have also been quieter with, the exception of Waihi which has made a strong advance lo £9 7s (id. New Zealand Insurance shares have been firm with tendency to harden. In Taranaki petroleum, I have several enquiries for fully paid shares, but holders will not part at late rates. Pactolus Gold Dredge Co. have declared a 2s diyidend, and the shares that were offering a fortnight ago, at 37s 6d are now selling at 40s on dividend.
