Mr A. Field, who lias been acting sub-editor on our evening contemporary for some tune, has received an appointment on the staff of (he Gisj •rne " Herald," and left to talce up his duties on Saturday. The many New Plymouth friends of Mr li. llarycy-Gibbon, late borough engineer, will be interested to know that

he is in harness again, having accepted a position with llie Brisbane Board of Wntcrwoks. Mr Harold Gibbon has also secured a lucrative appointment. Visitors to the White Hart at present are: Messrs Way, Petrio, Crawson, Montgomery, Symons, Woodhouse, Nodine, Miller and Webster, of Wellington ; Messrs Connolly, Briggs, Kyne and Gazzard, of Auckland ; Mr C. H. Biss, Wanganui, Mr J. H. D. Johnson, of the Pacific Mail Shipping Co., San Francisco, who arrived by the last mail steamer at Auckland, and has been in New Plymouth and Stratford for the past two days, left for Auckland last night, to do the Hot uakes before catching the returning Frisco boat. Mr Johnson yesterday obtained a magnificent view of Buapehu, Tongariro and Egmont, through the clear morning air, from Stratford. Of the Recreation Grounds Mr Johnson eannot speak too highly, the grounds in his opinion, being the finest ho has ever visited.
