TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL

OIUHXARY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taranaki County Council was lt-jld on Monday. There were present: Couafillors G. V. Tate (chairman), If. Stevens, .T Brown, A. George, C. Andrews, Jas. J [ill, and G. Adlam.

The chairman welcomed Mr A George, (lie nc,\ ly-eieclcil member for the Omnia Hiding, to the Council table, mentioning liis long experience on local bodies, which should make him an acquisition to the Council.

The Moa Kiding foreman reported that the Tariki road was cutting up badly, but the Mountain road was in fair order. He would require a horse and dray for most of the next month for metalling and breaking up metal. Cr Andrews thought tenders should be called for this metal-carting. The present system was a wasteful cue. He had seen "three men, a horse aud drav, fooling about the road" in his district with about three-quarters of a yard of metal.

It was decided to call lenders for sundry carting at per load, the district to be cut into sections.

Walker, foreman on the Junction road, Moa riding, submitted his report. Foreman Bennett (East Junction road) reported that the recent wet weather had played havoc with the roads in his district. The fillings needed raising, as they were made very boggy in rainy weather, as a result of creeks backing up. If the weather continued bad, more metal would be required. He required 50 yards of stone to patch between Durham and Bristol roads, twelye from Durham road to the Mnnganui, ten yards on Collingwood's hill.

The clerk will write to Ihe foreman to attend to broken pipe culvert on Tariki road.

Tenders will be invited for 100 yards of stone from Middleman's or Clark's pit; 70 yards to be placed between Durham road and Inglcwood, and :il) yards between Durham road mid Kainiuta, tenders to close at next meeting.

Mr J. Holmes, Waitara Riding foreman, reported that he had repaired the jfalakari bridge on the Kichmond road.

Moore, foreman in the southern portion of the Oma'a Hiding, reported the road and bridges from Oakura Dairy Factory to l'uniho were in very fair condition He would require tioo yards of stone on the road between the Oakura factory and Ok::lo, after the end of August. He submitted Mr 1\ Gibbons'olTer of ion shillings fur old bridge timber at the Werekmo stream. The matter of metal supplies will stand over till next meeting. The offer for the limber was accepted. Foreman Evctts (Oniata Hiding) reported having used 70 yards of metal nn the main road and 15:! yards on the Breakwater road for repairs. Bad weather, soft stone, and excessive irallic had made it impossible to keep Breakwater road in repair, and lllii yards of stone was still needed. Before the crusher could be taken to Tapuae, some repairs would have to be made to I lie road leading to the heacli through Mr Morris' land, ahe Council should make provisions for li) 0 yards of metal for the road between the Oakura ami Tapuae contracts. Mr Skinner, county engineer, had impeded and condemned the top covering of a eiiKert near Oakura factory, one wing of the culvert having carried away.
