ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FIB PBE3S ASSOCIATION. (tBEVMOITII, August l>. This afternoon an accident occurred on the wharf. It appears that along with other men a wharf laborer named Whiteside was engaged in unloading the cargo of the s.s. Arahura. Some considerable quantity of goods lu;d been discharged, when a sling of steel pipes was sent up, and was about to be landed on & truck when it was found necessary to lower further. A rnisunierstaiding took place, with the result that the sling was " highered," swinging with great force against Whiteside who was jammed against the side of the Tessel and had his leg lenously cut and broken. Nelson, August 6. Word v/as received this evening bv telegraph that a young man, Henry Barrow, accidciitly shot himself in the abdomen, while goat hunting yesterday on the hills at the head of Kiw.ika Valley. A party were carrying the man out over 10 miles of rough country and had not arrived when the telegraph office closed. The man was ■offering greatly. Dtsedis, August 6 Information has been received that John Lindsay, aged 18 months, son of a fa-mcr residing at Flag Swamp, was accldenti ly drowned in a creek on his father's land.
