A writer states that a curious story lias reached him from a country disI rid About a couple of years ago a horse-breeder in that locality had a very promising colt. Oi'o day be was ■ ailed upon (>y two men, anparenlly "swaggirs," who wished to purchase. A sum 1 , was <|uoted, and afler some discussion a pri.-e was mutually agreed upon. Tho horse-breeder did not particularly wish to sell, and quite thought the purchasers were unable to pay, but. to his astonishment thev pulled out notes in payment and walked off with the horse. Since then, although about two years have elapsed, the breeder has never, until just recently, been able to find any trace whatever of the horse, although be has carefully watched the papers. The horse now appears among the entries for the next New Zealand Cup.
